Urban Romance Recommendations

Sometimes when we are reading we don’t want the same ole normal love story. We crave a little excitement, a little bit of shooting, some drug distribution, drama (of course), a couple crackheads, maybe a few stints in the pen, and definitely a whole lot of love. If that is what you are looking for right now, then look no further! Below I’ve created a list of a few Urban Romances that had me ready to be a trap queen (or maybe had me rethinking my fantasy). Check it out!

A Staten Island Love Letter Series 1-5 (2019) by Jahquel J.

This series follows the love stories of three couples; Ghost and Freedom, Liberty and Staten, and Justice and Priest. It’s about real niggas going after what they want essentially. A Staten Island Love Letter contains just the right amount of drama, action, secrets, love, and betrayal to keep you interested from the beginning to the end. All of the characters are flawed (they all have some moments where you’re like wtf), but that gives it a more realistic vibe. I am recommending this to you all because it’s well written and it’s one of my favorite series. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. (I’ll definitely discuss this more in-depth in the future cause this is my shit!)

Trigger Warnings ⚠️:

Domestic Violence

Cheating

Miscarriages

Drug Abuse

Violence

Cancer

Suicide

Death of a Child

From Ratchet to Riches 1-3 by Patrice Balark

In this series readers are introduced to Mecca and Kapone and their situationship turned relationship. Kapone is reaching kingpin status for his family's organization, while Mecca is a young girl from the hood who has a terrible home life. Throughout the story Mecca is able to help Kapone with his business and Kapone helps Mecca and her family to get out of the hood. The main characters in this series face a lot of traumatic situations, so if that is something that you are into, I would definitely recommend this series to you. There is dramatic irony in this story, which means that the readers know more about what’s going on than the characters, when it comes to the characters' connections, which makes it more interesting. There are alot of snakes in the grass, but in due time everything (and I mean every damn thing) will be revealed. This is a series that I like alot, and if you like urban fiction, you’ll definitely like this!

Trigger Warnings ⚠️:

Death of a Child

Sexual Assult

Child Endangerment

Feticide

Prostitution

Death

Homelessness

Drug Addiction

Suicide

In My Feelings Over His Hood Love 1-2 by Khadijah J

Khadijah J. gives us the story of Kato and Montejah. Kato is a wild street nigga, causing chaos around the city. Montejah is a young woman who was ignored by her family and burned by love. Both Kato and Montejah were going through a lot at young ages, but they both became bosses in their own right. These two met under some undesirable circumstances that called for them to keep their distance from each other, but fate kept bringing them back into each other’s presence. From there the two of them forged a friendship that grew into something way more. If you like roller coaster ride romances, then Tejah and Kato’s story is the perfect fit for you!

Trigger Warnings ⚠️:

Violence Against Pregnant Women

Domestic Violence

Feticide

Kidnapping

Violence

A Love So Good: The Chamber Brothers 1-3 (2020) by K. Renee

The Chamber brothers, Priest and Nas, were bosses in Philly running their fathers drug empire. Cassie and Zoey are two cousins both running from their dark pasts. Fate (and K. Renee’s pen) allows these characters to meet the loves of their lives. In this story loyalty is tested, mistakes are made, and dark truths are revealed. If you want something that will make you keke while still holding your attention, then this is the series for you! There are some good laughs, unexpected plot twists, mad drama, and a whole lot of love in this series that will keep the reader interested. K. Renee definitely did not disappoint!

Trigger Warnings ⚠️:

Poisoning

Domestic Violence

Murder

A Love Worth Fighting For: Cannon & Tiff 1-2 (2020) by K. Renee

Cannon and Tiff’s story is about a rebirth of love. The pair have a very messy past that caused a huge rift in their relationship. Although they went their separate ways on negative terms, when they are brought back into each other's presence it is obvious that the feelings are still there and sparks fly! This is a spin off of the Chamber brothers story, but it could be read separately (I actually read this series first). Tiffany is the Chamber brothers’ cousin, while Cannon is their business associate and friend. This series has a similar vibe to the Chamber brothers’ story. There is the perfect amount of drama, love, and comedy. Between Nas’ foolishness and Cannon’s craziness (lowkey, he was a lunatic) this series will have you laughing out loud. I fw this series heavy (so much so that I read it more than once).

Trigger Warnings ⚠️:

Domestic Violence

Violence

Child Abuse

Kidnapping

Holding Hostage

Abandonment

I’m telling y’all to look these up, I wouldn’t steer you wrong! Also, if you read any of these and you would like to discuss it, I’m always down!

These are only a few urban romances that I like, so I’ll do another recommendation list in the future. Thank you for tuning in! I hope you enjoy! (Let me know what you think lol)

Ciao❤️
